Small Scale Blast At Colombo Malwattha Road

A small scale blast has occurred in Malwattha road- pettah, short while ago. Blast has occurred inside a van and several vehicles have slightly damaged from the incident. Two people have injured from the incident and according to the director of the Colombo general hospital Mr. Hector Weerasinghe, they are simple injuries.

Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has announce a list of businessmen who are not authorized to take money deposits from general public. CBSL has only authorized 32 finance companies, 23 commercial banks and 14 specialized banks to run financial businesses. SLT IPTV Launched!!!

Mostly awaited IPTV service from Sri Lanka Telecom officially launched yesterday. Internet Protocol Tele Vision (IPTV) is a new revolution in the television history where service providers can utilize existing copper cable network to deliver high quality videos and sound using Internet Protocol. Internet Protocol is a set of rules defined for exchanging data across a network infrastructure. Internet is one good example of a network which use IP.  

According to the company announcements setup cost will be Rs 9950+VAT. Apart from the setup cost, subscribers will be charged a monthly rental of Rs 1000 + VAT for 14 international channels and 5 local chanels. As an introductory offer SLT Visioncom is providing 10 channels of preference free of charge. Subscribers will be required to pay additional fees for time shift TV and video on demand services Rs 600 and Rs 100 respectively.

Former President D.B. Wijetunga Passes Away


Former Sri Lankan president Dingiri Banda Wijetunga has passed away this morning. Mr Wijetunga became the president of Sri Lanka after the killing of presedent Ranasinghe Premadasa in 1994.
Mr. Wijetunga was a minister of many key areas like ports, telecommunication, power and high ways.
Funeral will be held on next 25th at Gatambe ground - Kandy. As a tribute to late president, all the government schools will be closed on the funeral day.

An Explosion Near Colombo 7

An explosion has occurred in Horton Place Colombo 7 around 1.45pm. According to the availalble information the explosion has occured insde a passenger carrying bus. Around four people have got minor injuries as all the passengers have evacuated from the bus before the explosion occures. Bus was plying from Mattakkuliya to Moratuwa.

A Blast Has Occured Near Kelaniya Kalupalama

An explosion has occurred near the Kelaniya railway bridge. According to the available information this explosion has occurred on a railway track. No one has injured from this incident and only one rail has slightly cracked from the blast.
A similar incident happened yesterday also at Mt. Lavinia on a rail track.

Outgoing Free Package For Government workers From Mobitel


New totally outgoing free package has been launched by Mobitel recently targeting all government workers and retired government servants. Under the theme "Me Upaharaya Rajjya Sewaya Pinisai "Mobitel is planning to make outgoing calls within the same package totally free and also offer commpetitive rates for other networks also. Customers will be required to adhere to the "Fair Usage Policy" (FUP) as a mesure to reduce the network overhead.
In a grand ceremony at Water's Edge - Battharamulla with the participation of prime-minister Mr. Rathnasiri Wickramanayake, mnister Karu Jayasooriya and Leisha De Silva from Mobitel, this new packeage has been officially launched and it will be available for all government servants very soon.
