Chthagong temple of Bangaladesh has gifted a rare hair relic of Lord Buddha to Sri Lanka. A special expotion of this hair relic of Lord Buddha was held recently at the patronage of president Mahinda Rajapakshe. Later the hair relic was taken to Kataragama for a public exposition. The lock of hair of the Buddha, who lived more than 2550 years ago in ancient India, was brought to temple trees at the Bangladesh in the 1930’s by a Tibetan monk.
Sri Lanka possesses the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, the most venerated object of worship for Buddhists. Its present house, the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of Tooth) in Kandy is considered to be the foremost sacred place of worship in the Buddhist world.
I hope this increases interfaith dialogue between Muslim majority Bangladesh and a Buddhist Sri Lanka
