Independence day ceremonies will be held at Galle Face in Colombo under the patronage of His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksha. The military parades will feature the Armed Forces with the Air Force putting on a spectacular air shot. The Navy, Police and school children will also participate at the occasion. The Maha Sangha, and other religious leaders with Ministers and other Government officials will participate at the grant ceremony. Heads of the Armed Forces and foreign diplomats will also be present.
Sri Lankans around the world are also preparing to celebrate their country’s 60th Independence Day. Accordingly for the first time Independence Day is due to be celebrated on a grand scale tomorrow in South India by the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai this year.A public celebration in commemoration of the country’s 60th Independence Day was held at California State University yesterday (03), with the participation of the Sri Lankan expatriates in Los Angeles . A cultural show reflecting the tropical island’s over 2500 year old history was the highlight of the celebration. Exotic dances belonging to county’s ethnic groups were also featured in the varied entertainment offerings, foreign news sources said.Sri Lankans in France commemorated the 60th Independence Day and 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries in a special ceremony on Saturday (02) titled ‘Sounds of Serendib’, which was organized by the Sri Lankan Embassy in France .
